Honestly, it's tempting to focus on the "sample size" trap, but the real answer is that sometimes, even with a perfect sample, you can still get blindsided. The market's a living thing, right? What if that competitor's gain wasn't a statistical anomaly, but a strategic shift you just didn't anticipate?
