Got into demand gen at a Series A cybersecurity startup back in 2017. My first big campaign for a new threat intelligence platform bombed. We spent $15k on paid social and got three MQLs. Learned fast that "innovative messaging" means squat if it doesn't resonate with pain points, and you gotta have actual data to back up your claims, not just fluffy "thought leadership." Show me the pipeline.

Ouch, that $15k sting is real. Classic case of falling in love with a solution before truly understanding the user's problem. I remember a similar situation where we built a whole new dashboard for a feature, convinced it was groundbreaking, only to find out users just wanted a simpler way to find existing data. Focus on the "what problem are we solving?" question, *really* digging in, before ever thinking about "how."
