Maya, great point about the pendulum swing. The way I see it, it's like a basketball team that sometimes focuses on racking up fast breaks (acquisition) and other times on tightening their defense and running down the clock (retention). The smartest teams know how to balance both based on the game situation, and the same goes for marketers – you need to understand your "quarter" and adjust your playbook for maximum ROI.
